Her Honor Mentoring encourages mentoring teams to meet in person whenever possible. Mentoring relationships can benefit greatly from engaging in various in-person activities that promote learning, bonding, and growth. Here are some starting ideas for how to spend time together in person.

  • Bring your mentee to work. Shadowing at the office provides valuable insights into the work environment.
  • Attend a workshop where mentors and mentees can learn together, discuss new ideas, and expand their knowledge.
  • Attend an industry-specific networking event or conference together that provides an opportunity to meet professionals in the field, learn about current trends, and establish connections.
  • Meet at a coffee shop, mall, or any open space that provides a relaxed environment for open conversations.
  • Conduct an in-person skill-building session where the mentor can share their expertise and help the mentee develop specific skills, such as public speaking, negotiation, or interview skills.
  • Spend time at a local library exploring books, magazines, and other resources.
  • Explore a cultural event, museum, or exhibition together.
  • Engage in community service or volunteer work together. Find opportunities by searching Volunteer New York!
  • Find a physical activity that you both enjoy - e.g., spin, yoga, dance, ropes course, basketball - and do it together.
  • Take a “nature walk” and have meaningful conversations while appreciating the beauty of nature.
  • Enjoy a meal together by going out to a restaurant or cooking.
  • Pack a picnic and partake in a meal together outdoors in a park.
  • Share in a fun activity like a pottery night at the Clay Arts Center, hitting the lanes at Bowlero, or going to a movie or a play.
  • Check out your local community calendar for events such as outdoor concerts, farmers' markets, or street fairs.
  • Play a board or card game.
